ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE REPORT: The November "Stewing the Blues" party was a rousing success. Seventy members enjoyed delicious shrimp stew made by Donnie Hinson and Ed Womble, Down East clam chowder made by Janet Guthrie and New England clam chowder made by Bill Guthrie .. Yum!! Thanks to all who brought decadent desserts. The DJs, Dick Hamrick and Walter Upchurch kept us dancing with their Myrtle Beach Sound. They played "One More Drinking Song" highlighting the drink of the weekend: Marga-Daquiri-Screw-Alada-On the Beach. As the name suggests, this is a combination of many of our favorite drinks that is sure to knock you on your derriere. Some highlights of the evening were: 1) Ken dancing with Lynette's mom, Miss Martha, while we young folks clapped and cheered them on. 2) Members and guests dancing "The 1969 Tarboro Shuffle". 3) Lights turned up while the DJ played and the ladies danced "The Wobble". 4) Air drumming and hands waving to "Come Go With Me." 5) Lots of Shagging and folks having fun in spite of some aches and pains. 6) Marvin Rouse won the 50-50. Favorite shirt of the night was a large martini glass with a dog happily swimming and enjoying an olive. Favorite quote of the night was from a guest, "You all sure know how to have a good time here". Yes we do. Thanks to all who came out and supported Memories and .the Atlantic Beach Shag Club. The Christmas party can be summed up in one word; "Dazzling". The Dunes Club halls were decked with decorations that sparkled. When one member walked in she said, "I just love coming to this beautiful place each Christmas!" The smiles on each person's face as he or she donated a gift to Toys for Tots demonstrated the true spirit of the evening. As all one hundred and fifty glamorous people moved into the hall, each was warmly greeted by an officer or member of the special events committee. One of whom was an especially dapper man in a tuxedo standing at the top of the stairs. Thank you Linda Navey and Joy Whitlow for all you did to make this a truly special evening.Friends found their tables sharing holiday hugs and greetings. The bar served our favorite drinks which helped us to be even more dazzling. Our President, Joy Merritt welcomed us all and remembered our friends who were not in attendance due to illness. Prior to dinner, Ken gave the blessing and we proceeded to a display of a variety of delicious food. There was an abundance that filled many a hungry shagger. The DJ's, Mike Worley and Raymond Rigsbee added to the merriment with excellent music. A favorite sight was the dance floor filled with gaily attired women doing the Wobble. Was that Robert E shaking it to the music back near the bar? "Just A Moment in Time". Dancing is what we do and it was evident that members enjoyed this part of the evening in high spirits. There were happy times as documented by several photographers. When attempting to take pictures of the Marines with some ladies, two of our members had some difficulty with the technology. One took a picture of his thumb, but the Marines came to the rescue and we should have some fine photos. At the end of the evening we said our farewells. The Marines were dazzled by the number of toys they needed to pack up. We definitely exceeded their expectations. So Pete (a former Marine), Charlie and Jeff went to their assistance. Among other toys, there were stuffed animals, sports equipment, dolls, several racing cars and a shiny red bicycle. Yes we do love to dance and play. We also acknowledge the needs of others and appreciate the service to our country. Once again, the Christmas party at the Dunes Club was a dazzling success.
